As close to red as any buiddleia. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Prune back this species severely in late winter because flowers are produced on new spring growth, not last year's growth like many spring flowering plants. This shrub is not that attractive when not in bloom. Consequently, place it a grouping of other shrubs.
