Comments: This is a perennial grass but is often used as an annual in areas with freezing temperatures. This grass does not tolerate wet, cold soils very well. It makes an excellent large container plant and used as specimen plants in the garden. The red foliage and tall arching flower stalks offer strong contrast to other plants in the garden. Cut back old clumps with browning foliage in late winter to insure fresh foliage over the entire clump in spring.
