Fragrant, orchid-like, white with a purple throat. emerage in early spring before any foliage. Individual flowers last for on about 3 days, but they open up successively over a period of a month or so. Flowers are very fragrant. Winter dormant. Rhizomes remain underground throughout winter. They may be rhizome hardy in zone if harvily mulched in winter. Used as a medical herb in parts of Asia.
