Many foxglove-like pink to pale purple flowers in spring. Fruit consist of two to three valved capsules resembling a cotton bole, that opens to release many, many, papery seeds. Has large heart shaped leaves, which together with the seed pots create litter beneath the tree. The wood from this tree is said to have been used in making hope chests for Japanese women.
