Comments: A hard pruning in early spring followed by a shearing when new growth reaches a few inches results in more compact plant and more flowering branches. Because flowers are produced on new growth, more severe pruning is recommended than for the other species. If not pruned periodically, plants become straggly and unsightly. Nice to use this plant tucked into a shrub border because plants are not that attractive when not in bloom.
