Comments:
Most stock is grown as an annual although in warm climates they perform usually as biennials. This is an excellent cutflower that is widely used in the florist industry as a long-lasting cutflower. In the Lower South sow seeds in late autumn because stock cannot tolerate hot, humid conditions. There has been a lot of breeding work with stock in recent years. Most cultivars promoted in the trade now produce large, double florets on thick, tall stems, rather than the single flowers in earlier varieties that gardeners once grew.
