Comments: Fungus leaf disease may cause leaf drop in areas of high rainfall. Many cultivars with broad color range of flowers. Mature plants can stand drought. Fruit used in making jelly. Several plants needed for cross pollination to obtain a heavy fruit set. Periodically remove old canes near the ground to rejuvenate plants and keep them flowering. Spring pruning stimulates new growth shoots that will produce flower buds the following year. A flowering quince can live for many, many years if just given reasonable care. One of the earliest of our shrubs to bloom in late winter and early spring.
