Violets grow best in parts of the country with a mild climate. They cannot tolerate direct sunlight in the Lower South. Provide partial shade and a soil with a generous amount of humus incorporated into the bed. The flowers are quite fragrant and make good cutflowers for small containers. Where conditions are favorable violets make excellent ground covers in small patches, but are usually found as clumps of foliage that produce white flowers with purple edges and yellow centers.
